Dept of Anatomy
Dept of Anatomy
COURSE OFFERED
Department of Anatomy offers 530 hours Course in 03 terms during first one and half years of MBBS course.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the Anatomy course, the students should be able to:
Mention, identify, show, draw and describe the structural components of the body responsible for carrying out normal body functions;
Use the above knowledge to understand, correlate and appreciate the other pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical medical subjects;
Apply the knowledge of Anatomy with the knowledge of other medical subjects to provide optimum health services in the country and abroad.
Course Description
Anatomy deals with the study of structures of body. Human anatomy exposes the structures of the body and pursues their related disposition by dissections. Surface Anatomy and Radiological Anatomy with improved imaging techniques (X-ray, ultrasonography, CT scan, MRI etc.) apply the knowledge from dissection of dead bodies to the living individuals, which has become important for clinical studies. Embryology & Genetics depicts the intra uterine development of human embryos and fetuses. It attempts to explore factors responsible for growth and differentiation of tissues and organs and causes occasional malformations. Histology deals with normal microscopic structure of organs and a sound knowledge of normal structure is essential for an understanding of Pathology. Clinical Anatomy emphasizes on the application of anatomical knowledge in clinical practice for helping clinicians for reaching correct diagnosis and applies remedial measures.
Dept of Physiology
COURSE OFFERED
One and half years course of Physiology in phase 1 included 340 hrs in which lecture contain 120 hrs, tutorial 120 hours, and practical 100 hrs. Besides this 30 hours integrated teaching consisting on Anemia, Jaundice, Cyanosis, Lung Function etc. After completion of item, practical, card final, term final (1st, 2nd, 3rd) examination successively, the whole course will be evaluated by 1st Professional Examination (Total mark 400)
COURSE OBJECTIVES
General Objectives
To produce medical graduates to demonstrate knowledge and skill to proceed to higher studies and research in physiology in relation to needs and disease profile of the country.
Specific Objectives
Demonstrate basic knowledge on the normal functions of human body and apply it as a background for clinical subjects.
Explain normal reaction to environment and homeostatic mechanism
Interpret normal function with a view to differentiate from abnormal function.
Demonstrate knowledge and skill for performing and interpreting Physiology experiment.
Develop knowledge and skill to produce to higher studies and research in Physiology in relation to need and disease profile of the country.
Develop sound attitude for continuing self-education to improve efficiency and skill [including information technology (IT) skill] in physiology.
Course Description
Physiology is the science of normal functions and phenomena of living things. The attributes of life are growth, reproduction, repair and adaptation to varied conditions. The most important characteristic of living beings is that their processes are controlled. Much of Physiology is the study of control systems that operate in living beings. The goal of Physiology therefore is to explain the physical and chemical factors that are responsible for the origin, development and progression of life. The course highlights the relevance of basic physiology to clinical practice through use of clinical examples.
Medical courses in Physiology teach the essentials of life. The Physiology courses are very clinically relevant because the knowledge of the processes underlying the normal physiological functions of all the major organ systems is crucial for understanding pathology, pharmacology and for competent clinical practice. In fact, all of the medicine is based on understanding physiological functions.
Dept of Biochemistry
Biochemistry is the science of the chemical basis of life. It describes the chemical constituents of living cells, reactions and processes they undergo. Continued discoveries on the molecular basis of human diseases are an amazing spectacle and exciting adventures in biochemistry. Present advancement into this discipline has proved that‘The biochemistry of today is the medicine of tomorrow’.
Objective
At the end of the course in Biochemistry the students should be able to:Demonstrate basic knowledge on major biomolecules, enzymes, hormones and nutrients and of fundamental chemical principles involved in body mechanism upon which life process depends
Demonstrate skills in performing and interpreting Biochemistry laboratory tests and procedures with emphasis on those used in Bangladesh
Demonstrate skills in using the modern biochemical appliances
Equip themselves with requisite knowledge for higher studies and research
Develop sound attitude towards the need for continuing self-education
After completing the course of biochemistry in MBBS course the students will-
apply the impact of biochemistry in medicine.
acquainted the biomolecules forming the structure of the human body, their functions and their role in health and diseases.
explain the role of enzymes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
identify the source of energy in human body and the process by which this energy is derived from food.
explain metabolism of the body in fed and fasting state and consequences of prolonged starvation.
explain the role of liver in metabolism and derangement of metabolism in impaired liver function. Explain dyslipidemia and their clinical consequence.
describe the water and electrolyte content of human body and their functions. Know the types, causes and consequences of dehydration and over hydration. Explain the causes the consequences of electrolyte imbalance.
describe the sources of acids and bases in our body and the mechanism of their normal balance. Explain the causes and consequences of acidosis and alkalosis and the parameters to diagnose them.
demonstrate about nutrients, balanced diet. Describe the common nutritional disorders of our country and their causes and consequences.
describe the components of balanced diet and explain the basic principles of making a diet chart. Attain the skill to assess nutritional disorders anthropometrically.
explain the basis of genetics and molecular biology and the common genetic disorders and explain the modern technology in molecular biology in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
diagnose diabetes mellitus, impairment of renal, liver and thyroid functions.
